I have spent many years trying to find a record of the date and birthplace of George Henry Melhuish, my husband's grandfather. He was in the Coldstream Guards. Killed in the Battle of the Somme in September 1916, age 31. We have the regimental enlistment paper, his death certificate, his marriage certificate but nothing helps. We even know he played the mandolin in a regimental concert! His father had the same name and was deceased by wedding in 1912. He does not appear in BDM, or on a census. I have almost given up hope of ever finding his ancestry. He lived in Marylebone, London and worked as a milk carrier and a valet before enlistment.

Um, need more information such as the names of both his parents if possible.

According to his marriage certificate in 1912, his father was also George Henry Melhuish (deceased), trade was printer. No birth certificate or date, so no mother. Though a photo of an older woman was returned from the WWI battlefield in 1916, so I am guessing that was his mother.
